I started doing this for Japanese sentence cards when I hit 1000-2000 cards, (don't remember when): Learning intervals: 30 1440 8460. If the card had a 100 day interval, the default of 0% would reduce the interval to 0. I assume it's the fact that your graduating interval of one day is much shorter than the longest learning step? But this is a problem of what you set in the deck options under "New Cards". You could lop off the last step (1440) and change the graduating interval to 3 days, then you would see the new card → have it appear as a learning card 40.
